It has animals all over it.
Personally, I kind of love this thing, but maybe I'm completely wack? I do have a terrible weakness for anything with wee creatures on it.

I'm not so into the brassy blechiness of it, but the animals make up for it. What type of shade would you recommend for this?
Also, here is the lampshade I found in Wisconsin a year ago and which is still looking for a base. Guess what? It has wee creatures on it, too!
Suggestions for lamp base?

Off the top of my head: what if you used some metal paint to create a bit of contrast and tone down the goldy goldness of it. You could do it on the feet and bulb on top, and if you wanted to be crazy, on the flat part on top and along the edges, creating a frame around the gold etched parts.
As for a shade...I see craft paper, I see red/burgundy, I see maybe hunter green (though that might be a bit "Cheers"). Hmmm.
I don't know that in the end I am wild about the lamp, but I would like to see how it ends up.
I have a really good midcentury shade that I haven't found a base for either. Or a place to put it. It needs an old fashioned base because it has one of those tops that goes above the bulb...
I was going to consult freshpink about stripping the brassy finish off of this and putting something else on there. I agree, the gold color is not my favorite, but this could be a fun project.
As far as shade goes, I just want something that's so not whorehouse/old west-flavored, as this is already kind of screaming that.
I'm getting concerned, what is this interior design stuff? I'm much more interested in whether or not The Oz has a Coach collar, like a couple of Gordons in the Upper Midwest?
