A Few Weird Objects Peter Would Like Me To Cull From My Collection

But that would be wrong, I say. Wrong!

When Peter tried to deride the Jesus, Armstead argued in its favor. "You can't get rid of the Jesus! That's some classic folk art."

It does need a new frame, though. Something more Catholic. Anyone know where I can get some Catholic frames?

And he also thinks the Porous Walker picture is inappropriate for a home. Which is so untrue! This is hot shit! What he doesn't realize is that it could be much worse (check out the "Your weiner is so cool" picture on the link for verification of this).

Also, if anyone could tell me why Blogger refuses to recognize the verticality of some of my photos, please divulge.

Then there's the wee werewolf made by a member of Black Fiction. He was for sale along with records and t-shirts. How could I say goodbye to little tube-socked werewolf?

I mean, hell, he has a gun in his backpocket.

That's craftmanship.

It has animals all over it.

Personally, I kind of love this thing, but maybe I'm completely wack? I do have a terrible weakness for anything with wee creatures on it.

Rawwwwr!

Tweet tweet!

I'm not so into the brassy blechiness of it, but the animals make up for it. What type of shade would you recommend for this?

Also, here is the lampshade I found in Wisconsin a year ago and which is still looking for a base. Guess what? It has wee creatures on it, too!

Suggestions for lamp base?

Salvage Beautiful

These photos are from designer Olle Lundberg's cabin in northern Cali, coming your way via CasaSugar (I'm the editor for this site as of next Tuesday!), via Apartment Therapy.

Armstead's been interested in building us a redwood sauna, but we'd want a small cold pool to go with it. This one is big and gorgeous; I'd be satisfied with a small dunking pool, Japanese-style (or maybe made from a sweetly landscaped livestock tank).

Supposedly a lot of this is salvaged.

For his dayjob, he's a designer for many places, including Ikea.

So inspiring.

this is pretty

From Better Living Through Design.

Also, I bought a slightly bizarre/on-the-edge-of-kitsch Asian animal-motifed table lamp at the El Sobrante Thrift Town yesterday for $7.99. I will be posting photos of it tomorrow, and also will be soliciting help in renovating it, and with shade selection.

Good or Bad?

I can't quite decide. It's like those Patagonia pants I wanted and then didn't want and then bought and now must return because, as I told Peter, "the velcro fly makes it look like I have a ween."

Not that this would make me look like I had a ween, but maybe it would make me look like a ween?

Shades

Danny Seo blogged about these this week. They're from Ikea, and while wicker that was manufactured in Vietnam is usually soaked in diesel fuel(?!) to make it pliable, this wicker was soaked in palm oil, making it more sustainable. Grouped like this they look really cool. And I think they'd look even better if they were dyed.

clearing out files

I'm clearing out my files on my work computer in preparation for leaving on the 31st--yay!! and thought I'd post these before I trash them off the desktop. Just trying to keep an eye on things I like for future home projects....

This is a gorgeous way to liven up a gross chain-link fence.

And this is a great way to organize spices.

Some Things I'm Digging Right Now

ferm (Danish for "clever") wall coverings

Mibo pendant lamps

Spanish recycled glass vases

This ridicuous lamp base. I would pair it with a simple black shade, though.

Narrowing Down an Aesthetic for Armstead

These are all designs I really like.

Love the nail here.

Absolutely stunning work.

Very close to what I was possibly thinking of for the bench.

Possibly cross the above design with a bit more modern inspiration, as evidenced by this bamboo bench? I would rather just have straight legs though, without the curved single leg as shown here.

A cross between Japanese and Danish Modern?

A little too rugged, plus I'm not a fan of such pale wood.

Dig the alder twig benches. I really like Brent Comber's work.

This is what I was talking about last night with the solid wood stool/bedside table thing. This one's by David Brunicardi, whose work I also love. I'd love something like this, but in a more honey-rich, reddish-toned finish/varnish. Like a Russian Red Ale!

Hi Armstead,
